A Shoutout to Lance Mosley

Games09LanceMoselyDLSnatch.jpgLance Mosley from CrossFit Hardcore in Boca Raton, FL is doing a lot right. A former powerlifter, Lance has competed in the last two CrossFit Games. As a lifter, his bests were Squat 815; Bench 628; Deadlift 705 and total 2066 (he only put 601 for his DL PR on his profile because that's what he's done since becoming a CrossFitter). He made the 505lb deadlift look like PVC.

Lance and his wife Adriana Grassi are one of three couples that qualified to compete this year (Tanya and Josh Wagner and Mariah and Sean Provost are the other two). Adriana had to relinquish her spot due to pending surgery on her neck. Omar Torres (Bionic) also trains out of their thriving affiliate, CrossFit Hardcore.

The Hardcore crew are at a significant disadvantage when they show up in Aromas. Can you say "flat" when describing Boca Raton? Asking any powerlifter to run seven clicks is pure torture (Dave Tate says powerlifters worry about their cardio when the walk from the car to the platform gets them winded!), not to mention through those hills.

Lance brought his A-game even though the programming didn't favor him. He came in two spots behind Jason Khalipa on the run (last male), but he made it through to the end of Day 1. In fact, he moved up 12 spots in the fifth event, the high volume wallball/snatch Couplet. He went from 53rd to finishing 41st overall.

The bottom line is that Lance Mosley is fittest man alive who has ever produced a +2,000lb powerlifting total.

Couldn't agree more. He and Adriana are a class act and run a great box with super energy. They started CF in South Florida which is the Globo Gym ground zero. Great Job! Watch out for Adriana and Bionic in 2010.

Kudos Lance! Great job. But hey, your looking kinda small. You still workout? Haha!

Hope to see you in South Beach for FilFest 2010.

Awesome stuff, I knew he was a powerlifter but didn't realize he had a +2,000# total, that is sick, what weight did he compete at in powerlifting and what weight is he now?

Huge!! "The Hardcore crew are at a significant disadvantage when they show up in Aromas." Interesting statement and I disagree. Every athlete going to Aromas knows they will be tested on that hill and you can find a grade somewhere, in any city. It's a matter of preparation. As far as the programming, these events, at least as of now, never favor the really big strong guys. Personally, it's not a complaint. It's one of the things I love about CF. Being 6"2, 255, I know exactly what will not favor me and it's these exact things I work on. Love the challenge. Way to represent Lance. Your performance over the weekend was inspiring!

i personally have lance and adrianna to thank for introducing me to crossfit. I wandered into their gym a little over a year ago and it changed my thinking on being fit. I have watched lance work out, and he truly is inspiring. Not only do Lance and Adrianna practice what they preach, they truly care about each and every person who goes to their gym. The passion they have is contagious. Way to represent at the games Lance.

Best of luck in over the next year.

Thank you everybody for the kind words. It was an honor to compete against all of the amazing athletes(male/female). The top crossfitters from around the world, all at one location. The energy was f----- incredible the entire weekend and the comraderie was something only one could feel, only and only if they were there.

Dave, Tony, Sevan, judges, volunteers and vendors all put on a great show and the event was top notch. Cant wait for next year.

Great work Lance. It was awesome to see you bounce back from that run and deadlift that weight so easily. It honestly did look like a my PVC deadlift.
I still haven't heard why Bionic wasn't competing. I follow his youtube videos all the time and was really looking forward to seeing him lift.
I saw him playing around on those torque pin push up things they had there and he did like 50 of them, so I don't think he was injured.

For those of you wondering why I din't compete these year here it goes:

Two weeks prior to the Games i pulled something in my lower back pretty bad while training. I had all intentions to still compete hoping for workouts that didn't put too much strain on my back as it wasn't 100% by "GO DAY"(The Games). Unfortunately as we all know we don't find out the WODs until the day before. As soon as i saw the second event with heavy deadlifts i had to make a tough decision, and believe me it was tough! I actually thought about it all day Friday but made the decision and pulled myself out. There is always next year!

July 20, 2009 6:42 AM

Richardo,

It's not bitterness, believe me! Lance has changed sports, and the lower deadlift poundage is reflective of his current athleticism. Although he seems to have "slipped" in strength, he is a far better rounded athlete than before. Specialization is death for a crossfitter.

His listing of the lower number tells me that he feels like he has NOTHING to prove. I saw him at the Games and he is very humble about his past achievements.

Congrats Lance on a job well done at the games. You are a well rounded athlete, bodybuilding, powerlifting and now corssfit. I still think you should make a come back to powelifting at maybe the 181s?!?! LOL.

Lance was dominate in the 198s and 220s during his days in powerlifting.

July 20, 2009 8:48 AM

That's good to hear. I just don't think it would be necessary to point out the other number then. You are what you are now. My numbers from high school have slipped and I am getting back to them for my own lifting records, but I don't ever bring up what I used to lift at my box, just because it is irrelevant. I am glad he has become more well-rounded. That is good.

Hey Joey, I can tell that you never powerlifted before, if you would be a little more informed before you post a statment like that would be very helpful.
Powerlifting is a complete different type of training program, and Crossfit would for sure have an impact on his max on the D/L.!!!! (but of course you don't know you never lifted 715LB in your life)
Also just for your information when he did his 601lb at the South East Challenge in 2008, he had plenty left, he just did what was necessary for him to get 1st place,( and just in case you wonder yes there were plenty of people who witness that lift).
But that's ok haters are always ready to take down somebody else accomplishment.......That's what makes them feel good!!!!

22. Adriana wrote...

July 20, 2009 9:33 AM

Hey Ricardo, I got something for you as well, I unerstaind where are you coming from, but in that case nobody in the Crossfit World should ever Post their background!!!
This numbers where posted just to make people know a little more about his past, Trust me Lance Mosley his the most humble athlete I know, and not just because he's my husband, but because he never ones braged about his accomplishment, he always thinks someone out there is better then him, I really don't get where all this haters are coming from, Crossfit is suppost to be a positive enviroment.....guys get a life would you?

23. Lance aka Heinz wrote...

July 20, 2009 10:48 AM

Hey Joey disregard that post from my wife, was meant for Ricardo. She gets a lil pissed when someone talks about her man, as I would do the same.

But for u Ricardo, first off I am very humble and did not have anything to do what was written in the article, that was all Tony Budding. And he was just stating where I came from and my background as a lifter, you know like when someone says "he is a firefighter" or "I use to be a gymnast". They dont say that to brag or boast but just to let people know. BTW I am the last one to go walking around my box, let alone anywhere talking about my accomplishments.

Because they way I feel and have always felt, there is always someone out there BIGGER, FASTER AND STRONGER. But thats what keeps a true athlete wanting and striving for more.

Good or bad comments, I like em all.....LMAO!!!!

I think Ricardo needs to drop by for a Pain Storm and go toe to toe with Lance and Guacoin can come and do Fran against Bionic in a gloveless match. Holy sh$t you'd think people would be too tired to nit-pick. Seems like someone should read up on intensity so they feel less compelled to yap away in a peanut gallery. It's an appropriate and classy move to give your CF stats rather than your specialization stats. Hardly bitter.

Wally that's hilarious, The Guacoin comments to Bionic about the neoprene wraps used in his Fran time were unbelievable; funny you mentioned that. The BS criticisim from people like that are exactly what fuels people like Heinz and Bionic. Ricardo you're a f***!

Speaking of the wraps bionic uses, I have a ton of client as I'm sure all gym owners do who are looking for a good wrap to not shred their hands up on the heavy pullup wods. Can someone at CrossFit Hardcore tell me where he got those or how he made them.

Lance,

I will take you for your word. I have no problem saying that I got a perception from what I read. If my perception is not what the case is, then thanks for stepping up and saying something about it. All good. Good luck getting ready for next year.

As for people thinking I am a hater, that is not the case. Crossfit is one of the best things that has happened to me in my life. I would never want to kill the spirit of what it really is by being something or somebody that it doesn't condone. That is why when I get an impression of someone in the community (no reference and doesn't matter who..anyone) acting cocky it gives me a little bit of a bad taste. So far I have met some of the most quality people in the crossfit global community. Lance, thanks for your response. I include you in that group of people as well. Hope Adriana understands that.

Ricardo, I have some advice for you... fell free to apply this in other areas of life as well.....
Think before you speak- in this case post. Rather than blurting out the first dumb thing that came to mind, instead you could have said ie " Lance, how did you feel about the wording in the article? The way I read it it makes you sound bitter? Is this true? I wouldnt think so, but Im just curious.". But no, instead you just assumed and now you have to come on here-- appologize and explain your self lookin' like a real jack ass, sucks to have to swallow your own shit.

Sorry pal, I know you've already caught a lot of slack for this comment. But you heard the old saying "you mess with the bull- you get the horns" in this case all of Crossfit Hardcore are the horns... and in case you havent heard Lance and Adrianna are trainig some bad ass xfitters out here!

Bionic your an effin bad ass too! shame you couldnt stick more of CFHC in everyone's ass out there!! Get better/stronger and get 'em next year..

38. SSC wrote...

Silverback - If you're ever in South Florida, swing by Hardcore. I'd love to have a sense of humor wod with you...

What exactly are we supposed to be "representing" here? Can't we be seriously fit without taking ourselves so seriously?

I was just responding to the nasty comments, name calling, etc. I think what and how we debate reflects our community. Maybe that was all in good fun among folks who know each other. I'd love to come by for a WOD with CFHC! I get as far South as Tampa 4-5 times a year to tug on some fish but if I'm ever in the zip code, I'll be sure to check it out.

40. SSC wrote...

Understood Silverback. We have some interesting folks down here. Come South of Tampa next time you're here. Not sure if you have ever checked out Lance and Adriana's site - www.crossfithardcore.com If you read some of our banter, you'll know we are actually very close. Come by for a workout or two.
