Games09HeatherKeenanSandbag.jpgRecently Heather Keenan discussed the agony of missing qualification for day two of the 09 Games by a blink in 10 seconds with Heather Keenan. Event number 3 also came down to fractions of a second, only this time it ended in her favor.

In this video, Heather gives 'play by play' on the loaded sandbag-sprint heat that she clinched by the narrowest of margins. With a strong heat including Jolie Gentry and Sarah Dunsmore to deal with, Heather came out of the gates hot and took an early lead. Just as she thought she was home free, Dunsmore closed the gap. "I could hear somebody coming up on my side," she reflects,"and I was right at the cone... so I'm like, I just have to win this heat, that's all I have to do!" The battle for the final few feet, with both athletes exhausted but unrelenting, ended with a photo finish, a cloud of dust and a primal scream.

"I remember just throwing my body, like I could care less what happens to me," Keenan recalls. Losing was not an option for this competitor and she managed to jump two spots as a reward for her efforts.

Awesome job! There is no doubt in my mind that you will be a top competitor in the Games next year. For what its worth, I am still chasing your Fran time and found a lot of motivation heading into the Games this year from watching your videos. Even watching this video irritates me and I keep asking myself, "Why did I walk 10 meters out?!!" You killed this event though, great job!! Keep it up and I will see you next summer. :)
