The 7k run at the Games was a brutal mental and physical challenge. The top time was Chris Spealler, who finished in 37:43. Six men finished sub-40 (Speal, Mikko Salo, Russell Berger, Blair Morrison, David Millar, and James FitzGerald). The top female time was Sarah Dunsmore at 41:44, over a minute faster than number two Lauren Erwin (43:03).
The run, as expected, favored the smaller athletes. The bottom 10 finishers averaged a full 12% heavier than the top 10 finishers (169lbs to 189lbs for the men, and 130lbs to 146lbs for the women).
This video from Sevan Matossian has a series of interviews about the run right after the event finished, including with Graham Holmberg (pictured) ... [wmv] [mov]

I am drawing a blank on which athlete described the woods part of the run as an "adventure run", but I agree. The road part of it was awful...running in the woods, bear crawling, coming down on all 4's was a blast..definitely an adventure!
