Sevan and Carey were running the cameras all weekend and made this little clip of what went on behind the scenes at the NorCal Qualifiers.

After watching the video, I think that I've been too harsh in the past commenting about what does/does not constitute proper movements during competition seen on WoD videos posted on the main site. Obviously, being a referee for any sport is tough beyond description; rarely is gratitude given to the people who have volunteered to do an arduous task to the best of their ability, enforcing a plethora of standards in a fair manner in a frenzied environment of split-second decisions that can make or break individual dreams toiled at daily for a year or even longer. It's a tough job and somebody's got to do it...and I definitely don't have what it takes, so many thanks to those who do for stepping up to tackle such a tremendous challenge.
Under the tutelage of Dave Castro, there's no doubt that the referees for the Games will perform above reproach.
PS: Good call on using two stopwatches! The cameraman asked "Why?", and...having been an evaluator for military fitness tests for many years now, it still amazes me how many things can go wrong when the show goes "live" that never occurred during practice. The absolute LAST thing that a referee wants to do is tell a competitor he/she needs to repeat an ultra-maximal event due to equipment failure that happened outside of the participant's control.
