Iceland had their very own Regional Qualifier on Saturday, May 23rd, and the organizer of the event, Leifur Geir Hafsteinsson of CrossFit Sport, sends us word from Reykjavik on how it all went down:

It was a huge success. 33 competitors in the Elite group and an additional 70 competed either as teams or as individuals in a scaled down class. We got a lot of media coverage, almost 2 minutes of prime time national TV news, coverage on the back page of Iceland's oldest and most respected newspaper plus more. We had several hundred spectators during the day and nothing but positive feedback. So understandably we're very happy and confident that this will help us further increase people's interest in CrossFit.

The winners of the event that are headed to Aromas are:

Male: Sveinbjorn Sveinbjornsson
Female: Annie Mist Thorisdottir

The competitors had to complete two workouts. They were:

As many rounds as possible in 12 minutes of:

5 pullups
10 burpees
15 Kettlebell swings (24/16kg)
20 Double unders

For time:

Deadlift (225/135) x 30 reps
Hill run (approx. 650m track that went up a small skiing slope)
30 Reps, ground to overhead (110/66)
Hill run

Those competitors that did the most rounds in WOD1 got a head start in WOD2: 15 seconds for each additional round over their peers.

Here's a short summary video of the event if anyone is interested (w/f safe of course). As you can see we had a few wet burpees in the morning but it cleared up nicely in the afternoon.

Wow, there's enough syllables in those names for two or three extra people! Nice work in Iceland!
