Just In - Unauthorized Release of Sunday's Workout!

Sevan Matossian, our man on the land, was able to uncover the NorCal Regional's Day 2 Workout. We can't print it here, but he made a video describing it.

There will be overhead squats, hill runs carrying dumbbells, pullups, super-heavy deadlifts, and not necessarily in that order.

I bet you Josh Everett could do that!

Sevan, way to mess with the competitors' heads the day before their qualifier... I love it!

That would be a hard workout to judge unless all the judges run up and down that hill with their competitor. If so, thats a wod in and of itself for the judges!

OMG...that would make grown men cry. Everyone would be crawling down the hill at the end.

I am convinced that Speal could definitely do this workout.

19:43?! From Dave Castro? ...huh...I woulda expected sub-15. Maybe it's harder than it looks?

I'll bet me and you could do it, Freddy...I'll do the deadlifts and first hill run - you take everything else!

Pretty radski, although I have to say, this (along with the Day 1 WODs) just go to prove what the statistical analysis from last year's games showed: the CrossFit Games have a strong reward bias toward strength. Sure guys like Speal could do this workout, and probably do decent at it. But is his amazing strength to bodyweight ratio that allows him to rip out a 38 round Cindy going to be reflected in the overall results? My guess is probably not.
This seems particularly true in WODs that utilize running/rowing. The extra effort to run a 1:00 versus 1:15 400 meter isn't really worth it when the other guy who takes it 15 seconds slower can rip out the heavy deadlift/cleans/whatever faster because he doesn't have to catch his breath.
But maybe that's just the way it should be. Just an observation more than a criticism.

I am going to punch Sevan in the face for this when I see him this morning. If this is a joke, its f'd up, and if its not a joke, its even more f'd up.

Thats a big assumption furry murry... especially since The Games programming has little to nothing to do with what the regional programmers decide to do for the WOD's ...For all we know coach could same all bodyweight supported movements for the games this year. Strength bias was not the format for the first crossfit games, it played a role in the 2nd and truth is the regional programmers (me included) are just pissing in the dark as to what this year will bring ..rant over!!!

nice work sevan. maybe next time a little more demo'ing. maybe you could just do the whole thing so we could get a better idea of it.

only after doing the WOD you can punch Sevan in the face, it's only fair....

The WOD is legit, Sevan is a cool dude, but messing with my head like that was not cool. Sevan didn't make the WOD so he is off the hook for that. But if I ever get the chance to mess with his head real good, I am not gonna miss that one.

To Jamie@CFA, I tend to think that whoever comes out on top of heavy metcon is going to be the best equipped for the unknown and unknowable. Tomorrow is going to be a good indicator if this is really true.

The Sunday event at the Qualifiers in Eastern Canada are pretty close to what Sevan did...and I can't wait!!

Event 4 is a 5km Trail Run with very rough terrain. A lot of mud, streams, hills, and 3 mini events along the trail.

The first "mini event" is 3 tire flips. 500 pounds for men, 250 pounds for women. You have thirty seconds to complete your attempts and then you continue on the course. No penalties.

The second "mini event" is 3 keg clean & press. 100 pounds for men, 50 pounds for women. You have thirty seconds to complete your attempts and then you continue on the course. No penalties.

The third "mini event" is a sandbag carry - approx 100-150m. 60 pounds for men, 30 pounds for women. You carry the sandbag from Point A to Point B and then sprint to the finish.

As hard as that workout was I have to say that I think it's absolutely ridiculous how light the women's weight was (on every workout) compared to the men's. Most scaled women's weights are about 30% lighter than the men's. That mean's we should have been dead lifting 225lbs in the final wod. Instead men dead lifted 315# for 22 reps but us women only had to pull 185#? And 185# clean compared to 105? 165# jerk compared to 95#. I find it almost offensive.
