Ranch09.jpgIn case you missed it!

The CrossFit Journal has recently posted three items that might be of interest. There was an article published by Mike Warkentin, called Let the Games Begin. The list of gear presently at The Ranch includes just about every piece of equipment you'll ever see in a CrossFit WOD--and it's all available for use during the 2009 CrossFit Games. The workouts themselves are still a closely guarded secret, but it's clear that organizers will not be limited by gear when programming the WODs that will challenge the world's fittest athletes.

The Ranch itself has been modified for this year's event--to the tune of about $95,000. The main competition area was paved in May and June to offer athletes more stable footing, and the hill around the competition area has been re-graded. New to the event will be a JumboTron, which was added to the list after CrossFit Games Director Dave Castro saw one in use at the Hell's Half Acre Regional Qualifier in Texas in early May.

Justin Judkins talked about the article on CrossFit Radio.

Finally, Sevan Matossian caught up with Dave Castro at the Ranch, and interviewed him about programming for Games' athletes.

Though not a part of the Journal, Gillian Mounsey agrees in this video ... [wmv] [mov]

I'm really looking forward to the Games; unfortunately, no matter who wins, I'll be disappointed. Why? Because all the competitors seem like such nice, decent sportsmen and women and it'll be a shame if they all can't win. It's almost as if there's some sort of secret ingredient in the Kool Aid that induces a sense of comeradery, creating this English schoolboy aura of community and fair play. I occasionally have this impish desire that there'd be someone to root against, sort of a pretend bad guy like they have in fake wrestling who's out there telling Sven he's going to kick Kalipa's butt. Wouldn't that be fun? Just kidding, of course. Good luck to you all, everyone one of you are champions.

Re: getting 'em in the water...would that be after they dig the pool?

John-

Great post! The genuine nature of the CrossFit Community at the Northeast Qualifier, on the main site comments section, and within many of the comment sections under the "Games" category is spectacular.

I certainly have made MANY "virtual friends" since starting CrossFit in April 2008.

what if, the competitors climb up a rope hanging from a helicopter which will drop them off in the ocean where they have to swim back to the shore do a heavy, chest to bar "Fran" and then run back to the ranch..... for time of course. That sounds like fun

interesting comments by dave. i like it. anyone who thought this year's games would look like last year's games is a fool. that being said, my hunch is that the top fifteen or so guys will look a lot like last year's top 15. they have that much work capacity. just depends on the workouts as to who finishes first.

What happens to this equipment after the Games? I'm trying to set up a high school gym for Crossfit (Saratoga High), and would be very grateful for any donations or deals on used equipment.
