The problem with the dead lift competition is not the top end, but the available spots to place in. There wasn't just 11 ties for first, their were ties for nearly every position. Meaning, there was a problem in the purely mathematical concept of frequency of sampling. The best way to improve the results was to increase the number of places available, ie. making smaller jumps in weight between each bar, thus sampling at double the discrete frequency.

I think making increments of 5 pounds versus 10 on the bars, and yet keeping the 505 limit as a max, would have spread the crowd out more. There would be twice as many available places in the rankings, and thus a better distribution of scores. Some competitors took a real hit their rankings as a result of the large number of ties in that event.

They would have taken the same "hit in their numbers" because they still would have been beaten by all of those who lifed more. Personally, I would have liked a faster pace and smaller intervals creating more lifts and tying in more energy pathways.

Fitness is not just a dead weight lifting, fitness is much more ...
The problem is that crossfit community is favourite athletes a small elite, all of this because the competition was `` open to the entire world, you really think that there are no men around the globe in more Everett form? opt? Of course there are, in fact unknown men as the Finn Mikko Salo, or the Icelandic Sjvensson are giving a lesson of fitness ..

and clearly Everett, speal, OPT, Thiel ... athletes are great and fantastic ... but ... the earth is very big and there are many more mutantes''por `` ahi ...

And sure in upcoming games, we will know more ...

Relax, in bodybuilding they call the winners "Mr. and Mrs. Universe or World Champion", in track they give titles such as "the fastest man in the world", every sport does this. As an ex specialist athlete (track) I have no problem with the Cross fit community saying this. This is their definition of fitness. Having trained now in a Cross Fit Gym I respect both the specialist and the cross fit methods. Both have brought me to different places in my athletic career.

A slightly more complete twitter link, which includes potomaccrossfit, who is posting a ton of good info but without the #crossfit hashtag:

I am surprised that you guys didn't even mention Lance Mosley, he went from last place in the run to 40th after his amazing performance on the deadlifting Wod. He was the first guy going and everybody was saying that nobody was going to finish this Wod, and not only it finished it but he had plenty more left in him, he pulled that505lb like nothing!!!!
He set the stage next time give him some weights would you and maybe some props?

The link to the men's live scoring is incorrect.

I played around with it, and came up with: http://games2009.crossfit.com/men-results.html

The incorrect link is: http://games2009.crossfit.com/qmen-results.html (which is what the link up top for the men's scores directs to)

Enjoy!

For the deadlift competition, they should have made the competitors lower the bar.

are they using the normal 14/20# dynamax's to a 10' target...or did they decide to try to kill the competitors with heavier ones??? aaand can anyone tell me what the banner they are using as target says.. i was trying to find a pic of it on twitter but noone has the whole thing.

I think that they are using the normal weight dynamax ball, but the bottom of the target is 10', rather than it being the middle of the target like it normally is.

Danielle it says:

"Our workouts are competitive events. The strength and value of CrossFit lies entirely within our domination of other athletes. This is a truth derived through competition, not debate."

You'll find it here- http://games2009.crossfit.com/thegames/3-2-1-go.html

Castro was framed by a giant sign/wall-ball target reading: "Our workouts are competitive events. The strength and value of CrossFit lies entirely within our domination of other athletes. This is a truth derived through competition, not debate."
Don't have a pic. Sorry.

Does Crossfit allow transgender competitors?

At least one of the top female athletes was definitely not born female. I don't want to out "her" without consent, but it was very obvious at the local qualifier she won, and she's doing very well in the finals.

July 11, 2009 8:51 PM

Hey, Michael;

See Eric's post (Comment #15), there is an error in the link for the men's results, you have to remove the "q" for it to work..
New results imminent anyway, so hopefully the link will be corrected!

Cheers

Just because someone looks like a dude doesn't mean they are a dude. You better have "proof" (& not just the way someone looks) if you are gonna make those claims.

What kind of proof do you need? Birth certificate? I am not making this accusation based on muscle mass...

There are certain genetic traits which cannot be altered by surgery or hormone replacement that are apparent if you know what to look for...

What's going on here? . First they figured out a way for the affiliate competition not to matter tomorrow, then they figure out a way to have a 16 way tie for first in a DL WOD. Nice.... 11 out of the top 24 spots for the men went to guys who finished 1st in the DL WOD. That just makes no sense. SOme of those guys might have maxed out at 505...some could have gone to 585 possibly. Maybe it would have been a good idea if we found out. The guy who would have maxd out at 505 wouldn't have deserved a "1". Ridiculous

Many female athletes at the Games (and in athletics in general) don't fit into a barbie doll image. It doesn't completely surprise me that Duke thinks that a masculine looking woman must be trans-- masculine women don't attract the same media attention that the more feminine and conventionally beautiful women do. We become a bit invisible. So it seems to surprise and even frustrate some folks when we come out of the woodwork and do well.

Duke, you clearly lack a knowledge of the transgender community-- of what defines it and who exists in it. Very few male-to-female trans people fit the image you have in your mind. You also seem to lack a knowledge of what many female athletes can and do look like. Here is my suggestion... clear your bias, go do some research, and familiarize yourself with the multiple forms of physical expression in the world. Then if you want to ask an honest and informed question, I think that others around you will respect you much more.
