All past champions from any of the CrossFit Games are automatically qualified for all future Games.
Being named Fittest on the Planet for at least a year earns them the right to compete in any future Games competition if they so choose.
Pictured competing in this year's Games (from the outside in), 2009 champs Mikko Salo and Tanya Wagner, 2008 champs Caity Matter and Jason Khalipa, and 2007 champs James FitzGerald and Jolie Gentry.
We look forward to seeing these amazing athletes in future Games.

Holy crap, I can't wait to see James in the 2030 CF Games; he'll be competing against his girls by then!

That could potentially cause some problems in the coming decades.

With only 50 spots available, what if there are a handful of Muhammad Ali types that want to keep competing well after their prime? Gonna create some drama amongst those trying to get their foot in the door.

Anything is open to constructive crit, Arnold. The debate over whether this policy goes a bit against Crossfit's egalitarian grain is inevitable. Sooner or [probably much] later, it'll come up.
On the other hand, one might argue that being a Crossfit champ requires a character of such integrity, that none would ever misuse the right?

I like this a lot. I suggested as much back in the Spring. It is like the Masters where the champs decide when they're done. And, just like the Masters, there is a cut early on to weed out the ones who don't belong.

That is really cool. Good idea.
I like what SD_Mikey is saying and its similarities to the Masters.
Very cool.

Fantastic idea! All that work and an amazing performances yield a prize worth having. Or, maybe not - what an obligation they carry! These athletes would never show up unprepared to give their absolute best.

I don't think this is a bad idea at all. All of these people have earned the right to compete, and If they want to train every year to show up prepared, then let em rip! And, judging about what i have read about each, not one of them would ever show up not in top shape ready to compete. It takes a special person to win this event, and these people all fit that role. Also, once all the Mikko-esque Cyborgs start getting into crossfit and dominating, it will be up to Dave and Tony to reevaluate the numbers and the workouts to continue the Games tradition of being the most grueling test of GPP it can be.

All we know is next year will be limited to 50. Who knows what what will happen in the years to come.

I like it. The idea that an ex X Fit champ would unfairly replace the 50th potential competitor is understandable, but it's highly improbable that an ex Champ would compete if they didn't think they could compete at a very high level, probably at a higher level than the potential 50th competitor.
